Self-reading with self evaluation, demonstration, oral drill, FAQs, group discussion, role play, video and skill demonstration.
1. Aims and objectives
- To enable nurses to manage mother - infant dyad using evidence-based , best practices
- To bring about an attitudinal change among nursing staff to provide high quality neonatal care by implementing evidence-based practices
Nurses play key role in providing maternal & neonatal care. In health facilities, nurses are the first and most often contact person with the family. They are responsible for:
- - Conducting most deliveries at facilities, at times only available skilled attendant at birth.
- - Counseling mothers about breastfeeding, advising home care of low birth weight babies and instituting Kangaroo Mother Care
- - Managing sick babies
- - Trainers for other health care providers and agents of change for the community
Nurses and ANMs working at District Hospitals, First Referral Units, Community Health Centres and Primary Health Centres ; and in facilities at private sector.
These materials, that incorporate core newborn care , are also relevant for physicians.
